Corpus Christi Unites During Tough Times

Corpus Christi Unites During Tough Times

Whether it is the aftermath of a hurricane, a neighbor in need or surviving pandemic conditions, the great citizens of Corpus Christi consistently withstand it all…together.  As one of the area’s senior living communities, providing Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Support, Long Term Care and short-term rehab, it seems that Mirador has had a front row seat to witness extraordinary kindness, heroism and selflessness throughout one of the toughest years on record.

Thank you to Mirador Heroes

You see, Mirador serves the population that happens to be most vulnerable to the Coronavirus.  Early on, we had to shut our doors to visitors, which left a major gap in the lives of our seniors who depend on these meaningful visits from their loved ones.  In the process, we watched our nurses, certified nurse’s aides, housekeepers, maintenance team members and more, jump in to make life good for those who call Mirador home.  These heroes brought ingenuity to their rolls as they chose to dress up in silly outfits to make the residents smile or created new processes to keep them safe while also keeping them engaged and social.  These brave souls strapped on personal protective equipment and learned how to smile with their eyes while adjusting protocol each week as a new government policy would roll out dictating how they must modify their methods. It hasn’t been easy, but these folks are the cream of the crop and wouldn’t let anything stop them from doing what needed to be done.

Thank you Residents and their Families

We watched as the families of residents - and the residents themselves- graciously modified their routines to conduct window visits and virtual calls, never failing to ask what our teams needed and how we were doing.  They have not only found creative ways to connect with one another, but they have also coordinated efforts to show their appreciation to our loving staff.  These families are the type of quality people that make Corpus Christi so special, thinking of others above themselves.  We are so grateful to have the opportunity to serve them.

Thank you to the Greater Corpus Christi Community

We have watched how members of the greater community showed up multiple times this year to send one clear and consistent message to the residents and staff of Mirador: “we care about you!”   From thoughtful food drop-offs to generous donations, we have been overwhelmed by the love and support we have witnessed.  We recently hosted Mirador’s annual Festival of Wreaths event to raise money for our Benevolent Care fund.  Again, Corpus Christi showed up and opened their hearts to make a huge difference in the lives of those who once cared for us.

What it means to live in Corpus Christi…

Why did they do it?  Why did each of these groups find themselves in stressful conditions and respond the way that they did?  Well, living in Corpus Christi means more than being able to claim the hometown of Selena or the birthplace of Whataburger.  While both are certainly brag-worthy in the great state of Texas, living in Corpus Christi means that you are a part of something bigger than looking out for yourself.  It means that you are a neighbor.  It means that when times get tough…we chip in…we show up…we get through it together.

Thank you Corpus Christi!

Thank you Corpus Christi for all of the love and support you have shown to Mirador in 2020.  Thank you for voting us as the Caller Times Best of the Best Retirement Community and Best of the Best Assisted Living Community in 2020. We promise to continue to serve the seniors of Corpus Christi with integrity, compassion, accountability, respect and excellence.

Whatever the future may hold, we know that Corpus Christi is ready to take on anything…together.
